Episode 185 – We are Joined with Erich Goode

Episode #185 – Erich Goode

During our free-talk first hour, we talk about doing the show live from Ravenwood Island.  Why “island,” you ask?  Because where we sit was completely surrounded by water recently when the basement flooded.  We also get into the recent bloodletting ritual as performed on Ghost Hunters International by Susan Slaughter and ask – didn’t anyone learn anything from Extreme Paranormal?  Last, we offer some thoughts on Ryan Buell opening up membership to PRS…as long as you’re willing to pay around $12 per month to watch them investigate on the internet.    Listen here:  http://www.strangefrequenciesradio.net/Shows/sfr_show185_hour1.mp3

We then welcomed sociologist Erich Goode to talk about the sociology of paranormal beliefs.  Professor Goode constitutes believing in the paranormal as a form of deviance.  But when 75% of he country admits to at least one paranormal belief, how is this possible?  We also talk about the explosion of paranormal reality television and how media in general has affected the landscape.  And what about the methodology of science and falsifiablity?  Do paranormalists have a good counter-argument?  Surely not everything science bases its beliefs on is falsifiable either.  It was an in-depth and fascinating conversation, and one we highly recommend.   Listen at:  http://www.strangefrequenciesradio.net/Shows/sfr_show185_hour2.mp3

About Bobby the Paranormal Skeptic

Bobby Nelson is a skeptic, writer, and co-host of Strange Frequencies Radio. His personal blog can be found online at www.porkrhine.com At one time, Bobby was what could be called a "true believer" in paranormal phenomenon. Having been an active investigator of the paranormal for 12 years with several different Toledo based teams, he has examined countless claims of activity. But years worth of research and investigation proved to him that the evidence for these claims are generally lacking and, furthermore, the vast majority of so-called scientific paranormal investigators were using improper methodologies which caused them to draw both false and misleading conclusions.
