Episode 199 – We talk about the horrible movie Ted, The Higgs Boson particle, Joe Nickell on Coast to Coast, Scientology, Obama in Toledo (Maumee) and we welcome back Fortean enthusiast Nick Redfern

Episode #199 – Nick Redfern

Today, in the aftermath of celebrating our nation’s Independence Day, Strange Frequencies Radio spoke with Fortean author Nick Redfern about the government’s pursuit of mystical relics and lost civilizations.

In the first hour, we discussed a wide variety of topics.  We briefly got into the likely discovery of a Higgs Boson at CERN and what it means for science geeks and regular people.  We talk about the Tom Cruise/Katie Holmes divorce and the role scientology may be playing.  Korbus gives a 30 second review of the new SyFy show “Haunted Highway.”  Bobby saw the movie “Ted” and hated it.  We discuss Obama’s visit to our hometown and his appearance at a “haunted museum.”  And we also give our thoughts on skeptical paranormal investigator Joe Nickell’s appearance on Coast to Coast AM and how he fared against those wild and wacky callers!

Nick RedfernOur guest today was Nick Redfern.  We opened the interview not by asking Nick about his newest book, but instead focusing on a blog he wrote a couple months back at Mysterious Universe on the topic of belief in cryptozoology.  Nick shares his thoughts on why having a made up mind when it comes to Fortean phenomena is akin to deceiving yourself.  We then moved on to his new book, “Pyramids and the Pentagon.”  Why does the introduction to this book refer so heavily to Indiana Jones?  What makes the year 1947 so significant to this topic?  Why was the government so interested in the Dead Sea Scrolls and Noah’s Ark?  And why should these ideas concern Americans, if at all?

About Bobby the Paranormal Skeptic

Bobby Nelson is a skeptic, writer, and co-host of Strange Frequencies Radio. His personal blog can be found online at www.porkrhine.com At one time, Bobby was what could be called a "true believer" in paranormal phenomenon. Having been an active investigator of the paranormal for 12 years with several different Toledo based teams, he has examined countless claims of activity. But years worth of research and investigation proved to him that the evidence for these claims are generally lacking and, furthermore, the vast majority of so-called scientific paranormal investigators were using improper methodologies which caused them to draw both false and misleading conclusions.
