SFR 284: Hot Button Skepticism!

–Sharon Hill has published her latest Sounds Sciencey column about how we “gave up the ghost” and went from believer to skeptic. You can read it here.
–The latest IPCC report is in:  global warming is real, and its consequences are disastrous. Denying science, or ignoring reality is only going to make the problem worse.
–Not vaccinating children is a recipe for disaster, as the recent measles outbreak in California shows.
Another shooting at Fort Hood leaves multiple people dead, and over a dozen injured. Serious mental health problems and guns can be dangerous enough. Combining them can be deadly.
SFRfingerprint–We read an amazing review we recently received on iTunes that had us grinning from ear to ear.
–We review the recent season finale of The Walking Dead. Will we be able to offer any criticism of the show without fans getting mad at us?
–An alleged UFO crash in Elwood, KS has Twitter all stirred up. But only a few minutes of digging showed that it was a hoax.
–An openly gay scout leader is dismissed from the Boy Scouts of America. It seems if you are a closeted gay man, it’s fine. But if you are openly gay, you are “flaunting” your sexuality.
Mozilla’s CEO resigns in the wake of an uproar over his support of California’s anti-gay Proposition 8 legislation. Some are claiming victory. But is hounding people over their views until they are fired or resign really the best way to create a more tolerant and accepting atmosphere?
